A 15,000-population Pacific bluff town founded 1875 as a Methodist summer-tent retreat — Lovers Point Park's tide-pool coves, Asilomar State Beach's mile of dune-backed surf, the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary's October-through-February overwinter colony, and the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail's bike loop along the bay.
Pacific Grove sits on the Pacific bluff at the western tip of the Monterey Peninsula — three and a half miles of coastline running from Lovers Point Park east of downtown south to Asilomar State Beach, with the Point Pinos Lighthouse anchoring the corner. The town was founded in 1875 as a Methodist summer-tent retreat (the original retreat tents are commemorated in the historic Asilomar Conference Grounds and a few preserved Lighthouse Avenue Victorians), and the original Victorian and Arts and Crafts cottages still line the residential streets between Asilomar and downtown's Forest Hill commercial district.
Our rentals here lean toward 1900s-1940s Victorian cottages and shingle-style homes, with a smaller set of midcentury bluff-front homes along Sunset Drive and Ocean View Boulevard. Most are 2-to-3-bedroom homes sleeping 4–6, walking distance to Lovers Point or Asilomar Beach. The 17-Mile Drive's Country Club Gate is a 5-minute drive south; Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium are 10 minutes east.
