A one-square-mile village on the Monterey Peninsula founded in 1902 — Carmel Beach's white-sand crescent backed by wind-sculpted Monterey cypress, the historic Carmel Mission Basilica from 1797, Ocean Avenue's gallery-and-boutique downtown, and an unobstructed launch onto Pebble Beach golf, Point Lobos, and the Big Sur Highway 1.
Carmel-by-the-Sea is a one-square-mile coastal village on the Monterey Peninsula — Ocean Avenue's nine-block downtown holds 100+ art galleries, Carmel Plaza's outdoor shopping court, the historic Hog's Breath Inn (Clint Eastwood's 1972-purchased restaurant), and the Cottages of Carmel that line every residential block. The town sits on a bluff above the white-sand crescent of Carmel Beach, with Carmel-by-the-Sea Beach steps at every cross-street, the Pebble Beach 17-Mile Drive entrance two miles north, and Point Lobos State Natural Reserve three miles south on Highway 1.
Our rentals concentrate in the Carmel village core (within walking distance of Ocean Avenue and the beach), Carmel Highlands on the bluffs south of town, and Carmel-by-the-Sea's quieter inland neighborhoods. Most are 2-to-4-bedroom 1920s-1950s cottages or shingle-style homes with original fireplaces, garden patios, and walking distance to the village. Larger 4-to-6-bedroom homes scatter through Carmel Highlands for the multi-family wine-country trip.
