Sanibel sits east-west across the mouth of San Carlos Bay — the rare orientation (most barrier islands run north-south) traps shells that would otherwise sweep north toward Tampa Bay or south to the Ten Thousand Islands. The island runs 12 miles end-to-end on a single road (Periwinkle Way and Sanibel-Captiva Road), with the 1884 Sanibel Lighthouse at the eastern causeway end, the Bowman's Beach access at the western end (the most-shelled stretch in Lee County), the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge running 6,400 acres along the bay side, and the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum at the geographic center.

Our rentals run from Gulf-front condos at Sundial Beach Resort, Pointe Santo, and Casa Ybel along Middle Gulf Drive, to Periwinkle Place village townhomes in the eastern third, walk-to-Bowman's-Beach single-family homes in the western Captiva-bound third, and bay-side canal homes with private docks for fishing-week guests. Hurricane Ian's 2022 landfall just south of Sanibel closed the causeway for months; three years on, the causeway is fully rebuilt, the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum reopened in late 2024, and the rental inventory is the post-Ian rebuild — every listing is back open and built to current code. Southwest Florida International (RSW) is 25 miles east, 40–50 minutes via the causeway.
