Saint Croix is the larger, quieter southern island in the U.S. Virgin Islands — Buck Island Reef National Monument's 4,000-acre barrier reef and underwater snorkel trail sit a mile and a half off the northeast coast, Christiansted's butter-yellow Danish colonial harbor row dates to 1734 and was once the capital of the Danish West Indies, the Cruzan Rum Distillery has been making rum on the island since 1760, and the central-island Caribbean View condo complex puts you 15 minutes from Christiansted's restaurant strip.
Saint Croix is a U.S. territory — no passport required for U.S. citizens, the U.S. dollar everywhere, and direct domestic flights from Miami, Charlotte, Atlanta, and JFK into Henry E. Rohlsen International (STX) on the south coast. The island is 28 miles long and 7 miles wide — twice the size of Saint Thomas with about a third of the density. Christiansted on the northeast coast is the historic capital — the 1749 Fort Christiansvaern, the National Park-administered Christiansted Historic Site, the seawall boardwalk along the harbor, and the row of butter-yellow Danish coral-stone warehouses now converted to restaurants and shops. Frederiksted on the west coast is the cruise-ship pier and the quieter sister town. The two main highways (Centerline Road and the Northside / Mahogany Road loop) circle the central interior cane fields and the surviving sugar-mill ruins.
Our Saint Croix rentals concentrate at the Caribbean View gated condo complex on the central-island residential zone — 1- and 2-bedroom units with a shared 8-foot lit pool, gated parking, on-site coin laundry, and bus-stop access on the highway. The complex is 15 minutes' drive from Christiansted town (and the Buck Island ferry dock at Green Cay Marina), 10 minutes from the Carambola Beach and Cane Bay snorkel beaches, and 25 minutes from Frederiksted on the west coast. These are practical, gated, modest-but-clean rentals that work for couples and small families on a U.S. Virgin Islands week without the Saint Thomas resort markup. Pet-friendly with a $99 pet fee; smoking permitted.
