Navarre Beach

"Florida's Most Relaxing Place" — the longest pier on the Gulf, the protected Navarre Beach Marine Sanctuary, and twelve miles of low-rise sugar-white sand.

A Field Guide

What Navarre Beach actually feels like.

A Santa Rosa County stretch of Santa Rosa Island reached over the Navarre Beach Causeway from US-98 — the 1,545-foot Navarre Beach Pier sits on the Gulf side as the longest fishing pier in the Gulf of Mexico, the Navarre Beach Marine Park's Sea Turtle Conservation Center anchors the eastern end, the Navarre Beach State Park preserves a half-mile of undeveloped dune to the west, and the Gulf Islands National Seashore (Santa Rosa Area) runs 25 miles east toward Pensacola through the most-protected barrier-island habitat in Florida.

Pier, reef, and the protected seashore

Activities at Navarre Beach

Fishing the 1,545-foot Navarre Beach Pier, snorkeling the Marine Sanctuary's artificial reefs, the Sea Turtle Conservation Center, and a kayak tour through the Santa Rosa Sound seagrass beds.

01

Navarre Beach Pier

The 1,545-foot Navarre Beach Pier on the Gulf side — the longest fishing pier in the Gulf of Mexico, a $2 walk-on, $7.50 day-fishing pass, and the most-photographed sunset spot in Santa Rosa County. King mackerel and Spanish mackerel runs in spring and fall, redfish and pompano year-round, and live-bait shrimp at the bait house at the pier head. Open 24 hours; popular with sunrise photographers.

02

Navarre Beach Marine Sanctuary Snorkel Reef

The Navarre Beach Marine Sanctuary's artificial reef system 100–200 yards offshore from the public beach — disc-shaped reef modules planted in 12-25 feet of water, full of sergeant majors, blue tangs, and snapper, plus the occasional sea turtle. Snorkel from the beach (at the pier or the Marine Park access), or rent a kayak with a snorkel-platform from the pier shop. The most-accessible Florida Panhandle reef snorkel.

03

Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center

The free public Sea Turtle Conservation Center in the Navarre Beach Marine Park — live in-water tanks for sub-adult loggerhead and Kemp's ridley turtles in rehabilitation, kid-friendly touch tank, and turtle-feeding presentations at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Open Tuesday through Saturday. The default rainy-day stop and the easy hour during a beach week.

04

Gulf Islands National Seashore — Santa Rosa Area

A 25-mile stretch of Federal-protected dune, sand, and salt-marsh running east of the Navarre Beach State Park — the longest stretch of undeveloped barrier island on the Gulf coast, with no buildings of any kind, plus the Opal Beach picnic area and a paved bike trail along Highway 399 (J. Earle Bowden Way). $25 per car, valid 7 days, cheaper if you have a National Parks pass.

05

Navarre Beach State Park

A small 26-acre Florida state park immediately west of the Navarre Beach Pier — a half-mile of undeveloped Gulf dune, two boardwalks to the beach, restrooms, and a picnic pavilion. The least-crowded sand on the island. $3 per car. The local-favorite "avoid-the-pier-crowd" Saturday spot.

06

Santa Rosa Sound Paddleboarding

Stand-up paddleboard the calm Santa Rosa Sound on the soundside of Navarre Beach — clear shallow water over seagrass beds, manatees in summer, and stingrays year-round. Navarre Beach Paddle and Beachside Beach Service rent boards by the hour at Navarre Beach Park (the soundside pier). The kid-friendliest water activity on the island.

Navarre Beach is the only stretch of the Emerald Coast where you can still see the dune line from the highway — no Destin high-rises, no Pensacola Beach boardwalk. Twelve miles of public beach, a long pier full of mackerel fishermen, and a single causeway in.

Trip Planning, Answered

Best season for Navarre Beach, the VPS vs. PNS airport pick, condo-tower neighborhoods (Beach Colony, Summerwind, Caribbean, Sunset Beach), and what a Navarre Beach Gulf-front condo actually costs.

When is the best time to visit Navarre Beach?
April through October is the main Emerald Coast season — daytime highs of 78–90°F, water in the upper 70s to mid-80s. June through August is peak family vacation with 90–94°F days, brief afternoon thunderstorms most days, and the highest rates of the year (book by January). May and September–October are the local-favorite shoulder windows: warm Gulf water, lower crowds, and shoulder pricing. November through March runs 60–70°F days with cool Gulf water — the cheapest condo nights of the year, perfect for a low-key couples'-pier-fishing-and-walking week.
What's the closest airport to Navarre Beach?
Destin–Fort Walton Beach Regional (VPS) at Eglin Air Force Base is 25 miles east of Navarre Beach, 30 minutes via Highway 98. Non-stops from major Southeast and Midwest hubs. Pensacola International (PNS) is 35 miles west, 50 minutes — non-stops from a wider US-network and usually a cheaper alternative. Most regulars use whichever gives a non-stop home airport.
How long should I stay at Navarre Beach?
A long weekend (3–4 nights) covers the Gulf-side beach, the pier, the snorkel reef, the Sea Turtle Center, and one Pensacola Beach evening. A full week unlocks a Naval Aviation Museum day, a Fort Pickens half-day, a Destin HarborWalk evening, and time enough to settle into one chair on the pier. Most rentals enforce 3-night minimums except mid-May through mid-August (peak), when many flip to 7-night Saturday-to-Saturday.
Do I need a car at Navarre Beach?
Yes — Navarre Beach is a single-causeway barrier-island stretch with no shuttle and no public transit. Most condos have onsite parking; you'll want the car for the Pensacola Naval Aviation Museum, the Fort Pickens day, the Destin HarborWalk evening, and a Pensacola Beach trip. The pier, the Marine Sanctuary, the Sea Turtle Center, and the State Park are all within a 5-minute drive of any Gulf-Boulevard rental.
Where should I stay at Navarre Beach?
Two flavors. Gulf-front condo towers along Gulf Boulevard — Beach Colony Resort, Summerwind Resort, Caribbean Resort, Navarre Towers, Holiday Inn Resort. These are the easy walk-to-the-beach default. Soundside condos and homes (Sunset Beach, scattered Marine Park homes) — quieter, better for paddleboard guests, often cheaper, with a 5-minute walk or short drive to the Gulf side. RedAwning's small Navarre Beach inventory (13 properties) leans Gulf-front; book early for any peak summer week.
How much does a Navarre Beach vacation rental cost?
Off-season (December–February, plus November after Thanksgiving), 1- and 2-bedroom Gulf-front condos run $115–$215 a night. Shoulder (March–April, October–November), the same condos run $185–$315. Peak (mid-May through mid-August, plus Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks), 2-bedroom Gulf-front condos run $325–$525, and 3- and 4-bedroom homes $625–$995 a night. Most peak weeks enforce 7-night Saturday-to-Saturday minimums.
Are pets allowed at Navarre Beach vacation rentals?
About 15% of the small Navarre Beach RedAwning inventory is pet-friendly — filter for "Pets OK." Pet fees run $150–$300 per stay. Santa Rosa County allows leashed dogs on the public beach east of the Marine Park boundary year-round, and on the soundside Navarre Beach Park year-round. The Gulf-front beach in front of the condo towers is dog-free during the summer beach season (April through October).
What's the weather like at Navarre Beach?
Florida Panhandle humid sub-tropical with a Gulf-of-Mexico cooling effect. Winter (December–February) averages 60°F days and 45°F nights — too cool for swimming but excellent pier-fishing. Spring (March–May) is the most-comfortable stretch at 70–82°F. Summer (June–September) runs 88–94°F days, with afternoon Gulf thunderstorms most days that usually clear in 30–60 minutes. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1–November 30, peak September; the Gulf-coast Panhandle is statistically Florida's most-active hurricane stretch.
Are Gulf-front rentals available?
Yes — the majority of the Navarre Beach RedAwning inventory is Gulf-front, almost all condos in the Gulf-Boulevard towers (Beach Colony, Summerwind, Caribbean, Navarre Towers, Holiday Inn Resort, Sandcastles by the Sea). Gulf-front 2-bedroom condos run $80–$150 a night above similar soundside or non-front equivalents during peak. Peak summer Gulf-front weeks book by February.
