The Garrett County resort village wrapped around the north shore of Deep Creek Lake — Maryland's only four-season ski-and-lake destination, anchored by the 132-trail Wisp Resort ski area (1,500 vertical feet, the highest in Maryland), the 3,900-acre Deep Creek Lake (Maryland's largest freshwater lake), the connected 169-room Lodge at Wisp and McHenry Lodge resort hotel, the Adventure Sports Center International Olympic-spec whitewater course on the mountain, and a 30-minute drive south to the 53-foot Muddy Creek Falls at Swallow Falls State Park.
McHenry sits on the north shore of Deep Creek Lake in Garrett County, the westernmost county in Maryland — three hours from both Baltimore and Washington, DC, and 2.5 hours southeast of Pittsburgh. Wisp Resort on Marsh Mountain is Maryland's only ski mountain, with 1,500 vertical feet, 132 trails on 172 skiable acres, and a year-round operation that includes a mountain coaster, scenic chairlift rides, the Bear Claw Snow Tubing Park, and an 18-hole Lodestone golf course in summer. Deep Creek Lake — Maryland's largest freshwater lake at 3,900 acres with 65 miles of shoreline — is the lake-recreation half of the destination; the connected 169-room Lodge at Wisp and McHenry Lodge resort hotel anchors most of our local rental inventory.
Our McHenry inventory is concentrated entirely at the Lodge at Wisp resort hotel — six rentable room types ranging from a 356-square-foot Deluxe studio to a 395-square-foot one-bedroom with king bed and a 394-square-foot one-bedroom that sleeps six. All units are on the connected Wisp/McHenry Lodge complex, which means a 5-minute walk to the Wisp lifts in winter and ski-in/ski-out access from the building in deeper snow. Indoor pool, fitness center, and the Bavarian Lounge restaurant are all in-building. Most travelers fly into Pittsburgh International (PIT, 2.5 hours northwest) or drive from the DC/Baltimore corridor; the Lodge is the closest commercial hospitality to the Wisp lifts, the lake, and the ASCI whitewater course.
