Citrus County's lakeside seat where the 46-mile Withlacoochee State Trail meets the Tsala Apopka Lake chain — the historic Old Citrus County Courthouse on Courthouse Square, the restored 1925 Valerie Theatre, the Fort Cooper State Park canoeing-and-Seminole-War-history shoreline, the Lakeside Country Club residential golf community on Lake Davis, and a 25-minute drive west to the Crystal River manatee springs and the Homosassa Wildlife Park.
Inverness sits on the eastern shore of the 20,000-acre Tsala Apopka Lake chain, a 7,500-resident Citrus County town 75 miles north of Tampa and 90 miles west of Orlando. The 46-mile paved Withlacoochee State Trail (one of Florida's longest rail-trails) launches from the old Inverness Depot on Courthouse Square; the lake chain wrapping south and east of downtown is one of central Florida's most-fished bass fisheries; and the historic Old Citrus County Courthouse — now the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum — anchors a walkable three-block downtown with the restored 1925 Valerie Theatre, the Stumpknockers waterfront fish-fry room, and the Saturday Market at the Depot. The Crystal River manatee springs are a 25-minute drive west; Homosassa Wildlife Park's hippo-and-manatee viewing pool is 30 minutes southwest; and the Rainbow River snorkel-and-tubing spring is 30 minutes north in Dunnellon.
Our Inverness inventory leans residential pool homes in the Lakeside Country Club golf community on Lake Davis (about half of the local rental market is here — most homes have a private screened pool and views over the 18-hole course), a cluster of pool villas in the North Foxrun Terrace and North Timucuan Trail subdivisions on the north side of town, and a small set of lake-and-trail-adjacent vacation homes for couples who want to bike out from Courthouse Square in the morning and fish in the afternoon. Tampa International (TPA) is 75 minutes south and Orlando International (MCO) is 90 minutes east — the two main airports for an Inverness week. Most rentals enforce 1- to 3-night minimums, with Florida's snowbird season (January–March) running 5- and 7-night minimums.
