A New Hanover County beach town on Pleasure Island 15 miles south of Wilmington — the Carolina Beach Boardwalk's Britt's Donuts (the 1939 honey-glazed shop that's defined the strand for four generations) and free Thursday-night summer fireworks anchor the village, the 1969 Carolina Beach State Park protects 761 acres of native Venus flytrap habitat with the Sugarloaf Trail to the Cape Fear River, the Fort Fisher State Historic Site 8 miles south preserves the largest Civil War earthwork fort in the Confederacy, and the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher sits at the southern tip of Pleasure Island.
Carolina Beach sits on Pleasure Island in New Hanover County, 15 miles south of downtown Wilmington at the southern end of Hwy 421. The historic Carolina Beach Boardwalk anchors the village — Britt's Donuts has fried honey-glazed dozens out of the same Pavilion stand since 1939 (cash only, the Britt family in four generations, closed November through March), the free Thursday-night summer fireworks over the Atlantic run Memorial Day through Labor Day, and the Pavilion arcade and summer Movie-on-the-Beach screenings run weekly. The 761-acre Carolina Beach State Park north of the village protects one of the few wild populations of native Venus flytraps along the Sugarloaf Trail; Freeman Park at the north end permits 4WD beach driving for surf-fishing.
Our Carolina Beach rentals concentrate on the Boardwalk strip, the oceanfront condos along South Lake Park Boulevard, and the Cape Fear riverside cottages — A Treasure to Sea is the eclectic 3-bedroom Boardwalk-walk home with the colorful coastal interior, A Beach Dream is the modern coastal home with the ocean-view deck, A Red Snapper is the brand-new duplex sleeping 10 with parking for 2 cars on the Boardwalk side, and Driftwood Cottage is the oceanfront condo with the panoramic views. The Fort Fisher State Historic Site, the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, and the free Fort Fisher–Southport ferry are all within 10 miles south on Hwy 421.
